However, SSC shortlists candidates for Paper-II on merit, so a high score still matters. Each wrong answer costs 0.25 marks. Scribe-eligible candidates get 2 hours 40 minutes. ### Paper-II Paper-II has 100 questions for 300 marks in 2 hours, on your subject paper. Here, each wrong answer costs 1 mark. Importantly, only normalised Paper-II scores decide the final merit. ## SSC JE Syllabus 2026 in Brief * **Reasoning:** verbal and non-verbal reasoning, analogies, classification, space visualisation, arithmetical reasoning and number series. * **General Awareness:** everyday science, environment, current events, and India and its neighbours (history, culture, geography, economy, polity). * **Civil:** building materials, surveying, soil mechanics, hydraulics, structural analysis, concrete and steel design, environmental and transportation engineering. * **Electrical:** circuits, magnetic circuits, AC fundamentals, measurements, machines, generation and distribution, utilisation, and basic and power electronics. * **Mechanical:** mechanics, strength of materials, theory of machines, machine design, thermal engineering, fluid machinery, manufacturing and metrology.
